As we age, we also start to notice sagging skin. While this is a normal part of getting older it doesn’t mean this is something we just have to accept. Of course, many people worry that cosmetic dermatology that fixes sagging skin will require incisions and invasive surgeries, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Our San Antonio dermatologists Dr. Rebecca Kelso and Dr. Emily Fridlington are here to provide you with the in-depth scoop on Ultherapy.

What is Ultherapy?

Instead of needles or scalpels to fix sagging skin, this non-surgical, FDA-cleared procedure uses ultrasound to help give you the tighter, firmer skin you want. It can lift skin under the chin, around the neck and chest, and even the eyebrows.

How does Ultherapy work?

When the device is directed over the skin, the energy from the ultrasound is able to reach deep layers of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is responsible for firmer, younger skin, and it’s something that we start to lose as we get older. While there are laser treatments out there that can also treat wrinkles and lines around the face, this ultrasound technology is the only thing that can actually target deeper skin layers.

How long will Ultherapy take?

A lot will depend on the area or areas you want our San Antonio skin doctor to treat. The Ultherapy procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. And the nice part is that there is no recovery period after your treatment. You can go back to work or your regular routine right after.

When will I see results?

It’s important to note that you won’t see results right away, as it takes a couple months for the body to produce collagen. Everyone has different body chemistry and skin types, so a lot will depend on factors such as these that are out of anyone’s control. On average, it usually takes about two to three months to see the full results.

Is Ultherapy the same as a facelift?

While Ultherapy technology is designed to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, it won’t offer the same exact results as a facelift; however, Ultherapy can be a great option for someone who isn’t quite ready to take the plunge to get cosmetic surgery but still wants to get a visibly younger-looking appearance.
